What to wear as Mother of the Bride/Groom

As the mother of the bride or groom, you want to look elegant and put-together for the special day. The two most important things when deciding on what to wear is:

  1. Consult with the Couple: First and foremost, discuss your outfit choices with the bride or groom. They may have a specific colour scheme or dress code in mind for the wedding.
  2. Colours: Avoid wearing white, as this colour is traditionally reserved for the bride. Instead, opt for colours that complement the wedding theme or the bridal party's attire. Navy, emerald and champagne are often safe choices.

In this blog we are going to show you four different types of styles that are popular and usually chosen by mother of the bride/groom to wear.

SEQUINS

When it comes to dressing as the mother of the bride/groom for a wedding, sequins can add a touch of glamour and sophistication to your look. Sequined outfits can be a stunning choice for this special occasion, but it's essential to strike the right balance between elegant and not overshadowing the bride or groom. The shimmering details will undoubtedly make you stand out in all the right ways. Keep accessories minimal and elegant to balance the dazzle of your sequined outfit.

Let me tell you about our three styles of sequin dress that are suitable for the mother of the bride/groom. Our number one most popular choice bought and worn by many is the Fireworks Dress. Coming in a flattering cut for everyone, it features sequin tassels all over, giving texture and movement as you walk. The beige gold is the top pick colour chosen by everyone to wear at a wedding. The Vernot Dress is the second popular dress in sequins as it has a more conservative cowl neckline and the fabric is fully covered with sequins sewn down. Our next style is the Tallulah Dress which is an one shoulder design in a maxi length with sequins sewn in patterns.

FLORAL PRINTS

Floral prints and patterns are always a timeless choice for weddings and can be a great way to add a touch of femininity and vibrancy to your look. The prints of floral can come in a variety of sizes and styles. Choose a print that suits your personal style and complements the wedding's overall theme. Consider the season and location of the wedding when selecting colours and flower types. For example, pastel florals can work well for spring and summer weddings, while deeper and richer floral hues may be suitable for fall or winter. Accessorise with neutral or metallic elements to let the print shine while keeping the focus on you.

You can never go wrong with florals, for this category we wanted to showcase three distinct cuts of dresses that has big floral print. An all time favourite is the Portia Dress in a beautiful navy floral with it's unique point being the different style sleeves on each side. The Tatiana Dress is an off shoulder style (can be worn on the shoulders too) and has a flowy high low hem, coming in an amazing teal shade. If you can't do off shoulder then then Erin is a great choice as it still feature the flowy high low hem but it has cap sleeves and allows a bra to be worn underneath without showing. For those who like darker colours, Erin also comes in a fantastic navy floral, black floral and blue black floral print.

LACE

Lace is another fantastic option that adds an element of romance to any outfit, making it an elegant choice for the mother of the bride/ groom. It exudes sophistication and the delicate lace accents elevate your look with it's intricate patterns. Complement your lace dress with simple or vintage-inspired jewellery.

Here we want to show you three styles of lace dresses. The Blessings Dress has a sweetheart neckline with delicate lace top half design and cap sleeves and finished to a midi length with a tulip skirt hem. Mon Cherie Dress is the same cut as Portia Dress above but is made in an all over stretch lace. For those who don't like asymmetrical look, there is also the Invitation Dress that features an open circle lace cut detail along the front waist and high low skirt hem.

BLOCK COLOURS

For those who prefer a more classic approach, solid block colours convey a sophisticated look and poise. Opt for rich jewel tones or soft pastels that flatter your complexion while exuding confidence and style. Make sure it also harmonises with the overall colour scheme of the wedding. Use statement pieces like belts and clutches to elevate your ensemble.

The three styles below are all block colours but all give a different feel. Luna is made from a satin polyester that has a nice sheen in the material and features an unique asymmetric neckline. Tigerlily Dress is a classy one shoulder that has a tie up bow feature and has a gorgeous fitted body cut with flared skirt hem. If you are looking for something that's slightly eye-catching but not over the top, then Montell is perfect for you! Made in a stunning blue metallic textured polyester, it features a twist front detail and it's super comfortable.

At the end of the day whatever you choose, your outfit should complement the wedding theme, the colours chosen by the couple, and most of all your personal style. This is because you should feel your most confident and comfiest when being part of such an important special day.

Adele - "I recently bought this beautiful dress size 20 for my daughters wedding from Dees... I found what I thought was the perfect one, but it was out of stock. I emailed the lovely Marta and got a very quick response that there was one left, so I got back on and bought it with express post... Everyone was saying how beautiful it was and where did I get it! I'm usually an 18-20 so I went the 20 to be sure and I was very comfortable. Thanks again to everyone at the company that had a hand in getting to me so quickly without any stress."
